Wabuska Super Moon
Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at 10:45PM With the recent "super moon" we were all treated to, I wandered out into rural Nevada looking for the perfect spot to set up the tripod and shoot away. Unfortunately, I wandered almost too long, and found myself in Wabuska, Nevada, a quiet little rural town somwhere between Fernley and Yerington, Nevada. As I rounded a bend in the hilly countryside and dipped down in the valley, I suddenly saw the moon peeking over the horizon! I literally pulled off the road and slammed on my breaks, sliding a good 50' feet toward an open shoulder! I jumped out, ran across the highway, set up the tripod and ran back for my D7000 and Sigma 70-300mm. The moon was already fully above the horizon by the time I set up the remote wireless trigger, set focus, manual mode, got a reading, and started snapping!
